Executive Committee

President - Keith Hill

keith hill

Keith has been a member of the club since 2008. He studied design and photography at Utah State University. (Yes, he used film!)  He began his digital photography efforts in 2004 with the purchase of a Canon D60. From there he has photographed a variety of subjects for both work and personal purposes. Today, he continues to experiment with a variety of subjects from portraits to landscapes and street photography to "altered reality" images.

He also maintains a blog about the inner workings of the club, titled the President's View, at http://presidentsview.wordpress.com

Vice President, Chief Technology Officer & Workshops Director - Jeff Clay

After working as a chemist, information technology director, and
project manager, Jeff has finally decided what he wants to be when he grows up: a photographer. Consequently he has started two photographic businesses: Clayhaus Photography which explores fine-art color and B&W landscapes, architecture, and travel photography and Perfect Light Studios which offers portraiture and event photography. Whether you find him in the canyons of southern Utah, the arroyos of the West Desert, or shooting a concert in SLC, Jeff is the guy with three cameras around his neck and tripod in hand.

Mentoring - Charli Bova

After some early frustration with film photography, I had a renewed interest in photography with the onset of the digital age.  Digital photography has a much faster learning curve.  After the initial expense of the camera, I could shoot many more images without the ongoing expenses that occurred with buying and processing film.  There wasn’t the delay of processing before I could evaluate my images.  I began shooting my boys and their high school teammates participating in sports.  I provided the slide show for the end of the season team banquet.  Getting some positive feedback from the other parents was all I needed to pursue the art of photography.

After joining the Wasatch Camera Club and participating in competitions and workshops, my images have greatly improved.  I am inspired by the talent in the club and the environment of encouragement to improve our images.

It’s my goal to modify and improve the mentorship offered by WCC.  Currently, we have approximately 150 members with less then 10 involved in mentorships.  WCC offers it’s members multiple opportunities to improve their photography and take it to the next level.  The mentorship program could be another valuable asset in reaching those goals.

Workshops - Jeff Clay (see above)

Field Trips - Chris Miller

Photography has consumed much of Chris' time since moving to Utah from Washington DC in 2004 to work with the US Forest Service - his particular interests continue to be BW film photography and darkroom work with a focus on west desert and basin and range landscapes, though he is always up for exploring new territory in any setting. Chris is motivated by the photography of Andre Kertesz, Edward Weston, Harry Callahan, Robert Frank, more current folks such as Don Kirby and Bruce Barnbaum, as well as club members.

Photographic Society of America - Mary Whitesides

Mary Whitesides is one of the founding members of the Sundance Catalog Co.  She was the stylist and an art director for all the photo shoots on the catalog for 10 years.

Aid to Artisans has sent her around the world with new designs for economically challenged artisans to help them find sustainable markets.  While in country, she photo-documented all projects and artisans for special reports.

Addtionally, Whitesides is the author and art director of:  Mountain Style, Desert Style, Wicker Design Wine Country – Architecture and Interiors and Mediterranean Design – Architecture and Interiors.  Many of her photographs appear in each book.
