Mentoring

New Approach to Mentoring
The camera club, under the guidance of our Mentoring Director, Charli Bova has revamped our mentoring program to make it more effective for both mentors and those seeking help.  Instead of an open-ended approach, we have a revised the mentorship to a modular system covering the basic, intermediate and advanced subjects. There are advantages for all participants.

For mentors, you will know the beginning and end of your commitment . You will instruct a specific subject over a set period of time. This will allow you to be organized and more effective. You can choose to mentor on an individual basis or in small groups.

For protégés, you will know precisely what to sign up for and your mentor should be better prepared to present the specific topic in advance.

Here is the list of topics:
 Basic

#1 Camera operation - Taking your camera off the automatic controls and learning to shoot manually: adjusting iso, aperture and shutter speeds etc.

 Intermediate

#2 Exposure techniques - how to consistently get good exposures under variable conditions (low light, bright light, back light), camera metering techniques & use of histograms
#3 Composition - “why am I taking this image?”, rule of thirds, leading lines, patterns, framing, contrasting objects and/or colors,  etc. breaking the rules
#4 Focus techniques - manual versus automatic camera focus systems, DOF, hyper-focal principals, stopping action, creating panning, action shots
#5 Digital processing - camera to printer -organizing, filing, labeling, editing, storage and printing, raw versus jpeg etc.

Advanced

#6 Landscape photography
#7 Macro photography
#8 Sports photography
#9 Portrait photography
#10 Off camera flash photography

This program’s success will be determined on having enough mentors volunteering to meet the needs of the protégés who want to advance their photography skills. A mentor will only be committing to teach a limited topic over a 6 to 12 week duration. The fastest way to master a skill is to teach it. It will be the mentors’ responsibility to be prepared and organized to systematically cover the subject they’ve committed to.

At this time I would like to get commitments from members who want to be involved either as a mentor or protégé with the program. Please include your:
