Photographic Society of America

The Wasatch Camera Club is now a member of the prestigious organization
called: Photographic Society of America (PSA). Actually, it is an international organization with members from many different countries and boasts 6000 members altogether.

Each Club from around the globe has the opportunity to enter (5) different inter-club competition categories. The largest and most important competition is the Color Projected Image Division (CPID) Each club is rated according to a class. Group D, Group C, Group B and Group A with "A" being the highest achievement. Since we are a new club on the block in CPID, our status is of course, Group D.

A second competition category is: Creative Image Competition (CIC). Three groupings in this division include: Group A, Group B, and Group C. Our club is in Group B. All clubs groupings have equal standing in CIC and has the opportunity to move to the top purely on points. We rank at (11) in a group of (26).

A third competition category is: Nature Division. Clubs are rated here again by class with only two groupings. Group A, Group B. WCC is in Group B and is rated (4th) in ranking.

A fourth competition category is: Photo Travel Division (PTD). There is no class rating in this competition. All clubs are competing equally on just point accumulation.

The fifth competition category is: Photo Journalism Division PJD with no group rating just point accumulation.

The task is to earn points by entering competitions and working our way up to the top ranking in each group. Group A in the CPID category is the most prestigious international competition and can result in an image of the year award presented at the PSA International Conference in September. We are eligible to enter any and all of the above mentioned competitions. So far, we have entered photos in all (5) competitions and rank highest in the Creative Image Competition with our 4th place in Group
B. We need to get busy and submit our best photos into the WCC contests as this is the library from which our entries will be chosen. The status of our entries will be checked regularly and posted on this website.

The top awarded photos posted throughout the year, are combined and presented on a DVD each year also at the International Conference. Last year, Chris Miller from WCC had one of his photos included on the DVD.

As a new club in the system, we can also enter several photos to be posted on the PSA newcomers division of their website. As the PSA representative, I will select the appropriate number of photos from our library of photos that will be reviewed by our committee and sent into PSA. Committee members include: Jeff Clay, Jeff Patterson, Chris Miller, Jim Berneike and myself.

PSA also has a division called picture of the month. It is a print division and photos are due on the 1st of each month. All photos are reviewed and judged by PSA and one glorious winner is presented as well at the international conference held each year in a different city. So I encourage all members of Wasatch Camera Club to think of making some very special prints of their award winning photos and turning them in any time to me, Mary Whitesides for entry into picture of the month.
